About the event

You’re invited to join You & Five-O on Saturday, June 18th, for a special FREE live webinar celebrating Juneteenth. As we recognize this important day, we want to bring focus to the consistent challenges that have faced Black and Brown communities for decades - specifically those that are pushing Black and Brown people into the judicial system - including housing, employment, education, and police brutality.

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style.” -Maya Angelou

Our panel is made up of six incredible, passionate Black women who are on the ground, working in the current judicial system. They join us to share their unique perspectives of these issues, including a few you usually wouldn’t hear from, like a warden and magistrate! You & Five-O’s founder, BJ Council, will also draw on her experience as a retired police officer, police executive, and current community educator to share what she has seen impacting these communities.

At You & Five-O, we are passionate about helping Black and Brown communities overcome societal challenges to reduce police brutality, improve communities, and create a safer world for the next generation. In this webinar, we address the needs these communities have, what history has proved is possible, and what we believe can be done to change the current systems.

We hope you will join us in voicing our passion for lasting change in Black and Brown communities as we honor and celebrate Juneteenth together.

Panelists: Jeryl Anderson (Public Safety Emergency Communications), Beverly Boone (Historian), Elaine Evans (Durham County Chief Magistrate), Pat Evans (Durham County District Judge), Lisa Jones (Retired Federal Prison Warden)

Facilitator: Dr. Craig Waleed

Host: BJ Council of You & Five-O
